Yep, she's back. Again (go ahead, pretend like you don't care). Lara's latest adventure sees her travelling all over the globe, from Area 51 to Antarctica, in search of a number of artefacts crafted from an ancient meteorite. The game includes a number of gameplay enhancements and new moves (crawling and the monkey swing), and this book explains them all. For newcomers, the book also explains each of the basic moves so that you can get up to speed in a hurry. You'll get a detailed description of each location in the game, as well as an explanation of each puzzle you'll have to solve. Each level walk-through points out the best path and any secrets you might find. This is a thorough and well written strategy guide for the biggest and best Tomb Raider yet. And there are plenty of nice pictures of Lara--forthose of you who are into that sort of thing.--Amazon.com

Tomb Raider's The Last Revelation is more like The Last Straw. Tough as ever, this latest game in the Lara Croft series is enough to send all but the most hardened over the edge (unless they remembered to walk there, rather than run). This simple, step-by-step guide tells you how to get past even the trickiest parts. (Take this from a reviewer who was stuck on the very first level for a good couple of hours.) It's hardly a rip-roaring read--it rightly leaves the game to provide the thrills--but its combination of screen shots and clear, simple instructions is an occasional godsend. The pictures are on the small side, the producers of the book favouring sheer quantity over visibility. Also, the guide has been written with the PlayStation in mind--references to things like the R2 button abound--but the walkthrough works just as well for the Dreamcast and PC versions. There's a comprehensive guide to uncovering the game's secrets--it's at the back of the book, so be careful when you flick through lest you spoil the finale of the game. --David Bailey
