We may think of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament as the only sacred writings of the early Christians, but this is not the case. This title offers an anthology of translations of many of non-canonical writings from the centuries after Christ - texts that have for the most part been neglected or lost for nearly two millennia.
-
The early Christian Church was a chaos of contending beliefs. Some groups Christians claimed that there was just not one God. Certain sects maintained that Jesus was human but not divine; and others that he was divine but not human. This book offers a study of these forms of Christianity, and how they came to be suppressed, reformed, or forgotten.

For those who've never read the Bible and for those who've read it too much.Lacey's 'dangerously real' retelling of Scripture vividly demonstrates that the Bible is packed full of stories, poems, and images that resonate with the big issues of today. This fresh paraphrase-come-running-commentary brings the text alive: Bible stories are retold as mini blockbusters; psalms as song lyrics; epistles as emails; Revelation as seen through a virtual reality headset. Out with stale religious terms, here's a 'Bible' which talks today's language---gritty, earthy, and witty. Enough starting at Genesis with good intentions and getting lost in Leviticus-Lacey succeeds in revitalizing a classic work by focusing on the big picture: fast-forwarding through the 'slow-moving' bits with pace, passion, and energy to make the Bible a page turner.Lacey's tour de force was created during a remarkable personal journey through terminal cancer: the stuff Bible stories are made of. This life-experience injects Lacey's take on Scripture with authenticity and authority---resonating with Bible characters who also wrestled with the big questions. Purist alert: This is not THE Bible (capital B)... but it might just get you reaching for one.

The word Apocrypha comes from a Greek word meaning "those having been hidden away".
Apocrypha generally means those sacred books of the Jewish people which were not included in the Hebrew canonized Bible.
These books are valuable as forming a link connecting the Old and New Testaments, and are regarded as useful reading, although not all the books are of equal value.
The apocryphal books in this Kindle book are considered of "special value" and are mostly correct, but with many interpolations by man.
The Roman Church regards as part of the canon the books of Tobit, Judith, Wisd., Ecclus., B -

Book 01 Genesis
001:001 In the beginning God{After "God," the Hebrew has the two letters
"Aleph Tav" (the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet)
as a grammatical marker.} created the heavens and the earth.
001:002 Now the earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface
of the deep. God's Spirit was hovering over the surface
of the waters.
001:003 God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
001:004 God saw the light, and saw that it was good. God divided
the light from the darkness.
001:005 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
There was evening and there was morning, one day.
001:006 God said, "Let there be an expanse in the middle of the waters,
and let it divide the waters from the waters."
001:007 God made the expanse, and divided the waters which were under
the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse;
and it was so.
001:008 God called the expanse sky. There was evening and there
was morning, a second day.
001:009 God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together
to one place, and let the dry land appear;" and it was so.
001:010 God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together
of the waters he called Seas. God saw that it was good. -
The Book of Jasher is the normal English name (used by e.g. the King James Bible) of a work known in the original Hebrew as Sefer haYashar, (ספר הישר; also transliterated Sēper haiYāšār). It is the best-known of several "Lost books of the Old Testament", books referenced in the Hebrew Bible of which no copies are known to exist. The original Hebrew translates as "Book of the Upright".
Joshua 10:13 states:
And the Sun stood still, and the Moon stayed,
until the people had avenged themselves on their enemies.
Is this not written in the Book of the Upright (Sēper haiYāšār)?
2 Samuel 1:18 states:
To teach the Sons of Judah the use of the bow; behold it is written in the Book of the Upright (Sēper haiYāšār) -
