Life gets exciting for Frances Tucket on his 14th birthday: His Dad gives him a rifle, he's kidnapped by Indians, makes a daring escape with the aid of a one- armed man and then heads off in search of his family across the Wild West. By his 15th birthday, June 13, 1849, Frances can ride a horse, shoot a rifle, kill and skin a buffalo and raise a family of his own. So, this is obviously not your usual coming-of-age tale.Although, the story line is less than original in places, there are enough surprises to maintain the suspense and the ending is certainly worth waiting for. If ever a book merited a next instalment, it's this one.
