Four people go to the park, and through their eyes we see four different stories about what took place there. There's the bossy woman, the sad man, the lonely boy and the young girl whose warmth touches them all. As the story moves from one voice to another, their perspectives are reflected in the shifting landscapes and seasons.
As with so many of Anthony Browne's works, this is an intriguing, many layered, hugely entertaining book which can be read again and again, and which will appeal to adults and children alike.
Voices in the Park revisits a previous book by Anthony Browne, A Walk in the Park, written 20 years ago, but now sadly out of print. (Age 4 to 8) --Philippa Reece

When Willy, literally, bumps into Hugh they both apologise profusely and soon become fast friends. When Willy is bothered by Buster the bully, Hugh is on hand to defuse the situation; and when Hugh is frightened by a "terrifying creature", Willy is able to return the favour.
Anthony Browne's colourful illustrations tell their own story--the picture of the friends gazing at the humans in the cages at the zoo, for instance, speaks volumes. This apparently simple story of friendship works on many levels as Anthony Browne's humour and sympathy for the apparent underdog shines through in both text and illustrations. (Ages 3 and over)
A Big Book edition of this story is also available.

Mr Piggott and his two sons behave like pigs to poor Mrs Piggott until, finally, she walks out. Left to fend for themselves, the male Piggotts undergo some curious changes! This is a hilarious picture book, full of surprises and teasing visual jokes. As with so many of Anthony Browne's books, this story works on several levels with sophisticated pictures combining with a simply told story. Within the story there is a serious message, but it is also a humorous tale that will delight young children and the whole family--and provide some food for thought. --Philippa Reece

He's all right, my dad. He's as strong as a gorilla and as happy as a hippopotamus. He's a great dancer, a brilliant singer, he's fantastic at football and he makes me laugh. But that's not all that's great about my dad...
If you are looking for a book that inspires, tugs at the heart strings without overwhelming sentimentality, is packed with subtle humour and perfectly captures the way children look fondly on their dads then look no further than the first-rate My Dad by the equally superb Anthony Browne.
This warm, hilarious and utterly delightful tribute to dads everywhere is cleverly executed by Browne, whose own inimitable style rarely fails to please, and is sure to become an absolute classic. An almost perfect picture book, with bold, simple text accompanying the even bolder illustrations, My Dad is a must for kids, and makes the ideal gift for beloved fathers everywhere, however young or old they may be. Age 3 and over. --Susan Harrison

Willy is different. He likes to read books and listen to music; he's no good at sports, although he tries; and wherever he goes he gets laughed at. But when he's threatened by the horrible Buster Nose he really comes into his own.
As with so many of Anthony Browne's books, this story works on several levels, with sophisticated pictures perfectly complementing the simple narrative. Within the story there is a serious message, but it is also a humorous tale and young children will delight in Willy's defeat of the bully. --Philippa Reece
